Note:
Phoebe Elizabeth Apperson was born in Franklin County, Missouri on December 3, 1842. At age 19 she married future U. S. Senator
George Hearst. Shortly after their marriage the couple moved to San Francisco where Phoebe gave birth to a son, William Randolph
Hearst, in 1863. She involved herself in numerous charitable and educational organizations, was the first woman University
of California Regent, and did much to spread the Baha'i Faith through the United States after her conversion in 1898. Phoebe
Hearst died at the Hacienda Ranch in Pleasanton on April 13, 1919 during the worldwide influenza epidemic.
